Ag Ullmhú don ESB Bleaist Eolaíochta!
Ag Ullmhú don ESB Bleaist Eolaíochta!
Tá Rang 3 le Múinteoir Katie ar bís don ESB Bleaist Eolaíochta! Roghnaíomar ár gceist eolaíochta:
“Conas a fheiceann sciatháin leathair sa dorchadas? Ag fiosrú radharc oíche.”
D’fhoghlaim muid nach bhfuil radharc oíche ag sciatháin leathair! Ina áit sin, úsáideann siad macállaíocht chun dul timpeall. Rinneamar turgnaimh chun é seo a thuiscint.
Ár dTurgnaimh
Fuaimeanna a Chloisteáil
Chuireamar dallóg ar dhalta agus rinneamar torann os comhair, taobh thiar, agus taobh leo. Bhí sé is deacra torann taobh thiar a chloisteáil!
Léamh sa Dorchadas
Lig muid dár súile dul i dtaithí ar an dorchadas agus rinneamar iarracht léamh.
Nuair a lasamar agus mhúchamar an solas, bhí sé i bhfad níos deacra!
Ag Aimsigh an tÉan
Lorgaíomar éan páipéir ar cheithre bhealach:
- Sa dorchadas iomlán (ag úsáid lámha)
- Le solas air
- Le macállaíocht (cara ag bualadh in aice leis an éan)
- Le solas UV (líníocht UV ar an éan)
Fuaireamar amach go raibh macállaíocht an ceann ba dheacra, ach d’oibrigh solas UV go han-mhaith!
Réidh don Taispeántas!
Táimid ag ullmhú póstaeir agus ag scríobh faoinár dtorthaí. Táimid an-sceitimíneach lenár dtionscadal a thaispeáint ag an ESB Science Blast! Coinnigh súil amach le haghaidh nuashonruithe eile.
Preparing for the ESB Science Blast!
Rang 3 is very excitedly preparing for the ESB Science Blast! We chose our science question:
“How do bats see in the dark? Investigating Night-Vision”
We learned that bats do not have night vision! Instead, they use echolocation to find their way. We did experiments and research to understand this better.
Our Experiments:
Hearing Sounds
We covered a student’s eyes and made noises in front, behind, and beside them. They had to try to guess the location of the noise as accurately as possible. It was hardest to hear the noises that were behind us!
Reading in the Dark
We let our eyes adjust to darkness and tried to read a page. Then we turned the light on and off, and reading was much harder! We discovered that for us humans, it takes time for our vision to adjust to different levels of light.
Finding the Paper Bird
We searched for a paper bird in four ways:
- In total darkness (using hands)
- With the light on
- Using echolocation (a friend tapped near the bird)
- With UV light (the bird was drawn with a UV pen)
We found that using echolocation was the hardest, but UV light worked very well!
Getting Ready
Now we are making posters and writing about our results. We are very excited to share our project at the ESB Science Blast! Stay tuned for more updates.
